The proposal, made by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, includes over 2 million acres within the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Fish Hatchery System, including 7 National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) opened to hunting for the first time and opened or expanded hunting and fishing at 83 other NWRs.

Take a look at the highlights of that proposal and which National Wildlife Refuges are on that list. (Link in our bio)

When it comes down to being prepared, six categori When it comes down to being prepared, six categories remain consistent:

🔹 Don't overdo it. (Don't pack fishing gear if you don't fish)
🔹Protect your equipment. Waterproof cases and containers are a must.
🔹Know your gear and know how to use it.
🔹Your electronics will fail. Have a backup plan.
🔹Pack items with multiple uses. (Zip ties, duct tape, and your classic Swiss army knife or multi-tool are great examples)
🔹Always be prepared for the night.

Your environment plays a HUGE part in what you need to pack. For a multi-day winter mountain crossing, you would prioritize shelter over water; however, water is a majority priority in any desert crossing.

Take a look at this in-depth list of recommendations of what to pack and how to pack it. Check the link in our bio. @dcsafariclub
SCI joined 36 other organizations to support the f SCI joined 36 other organizations to support the funding of increased wildlife corridors in the US.

Wildlife corridors are integral to preserving habitats and natural migrations. Additionally, they protect both animals and motorists from fatalities.

We look forward to continued bipartisan support of these provisions and strongly urge Congress to develop infrastructure goals symbiotic with wildlife, habitat, and conservation efforts. These wildlife crossing initiatives are pivotal steps toward a thriving coexistence between Americans and wildlife.

An attempt to restrict sustainable wildlife trade An attempt to restrict sustainable wildlife trade was defeated in the European Parliament (EP) last week. 🎉

The EP was considering a resolution to ban trade in ivory at the European level, as well as export and or re-export. However, the resolution also asked “for similar restrictions for other endangered species,” which could have detrimentally impacted sustainable use conservation programs throughout southern Africa.

Fortunately, a majority of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) supported the inclusion of the word “commercial” to the text. In approving the amendment, the text will not restrict legal and sustainable wildlife trade. This is a major victory for European sportsmen and women, rural African communities, and wildlife.

When safari areas of Botswana were converted into When safari areas of Botswana were converted into non-consumptive tourism like photographic safaris, many residents lost jobs and were unable to replace revenue. The lack of infrastructure in some of these areas makes photographic tourism a poor replacement for hunting safaris. Additionally, hunts drive more revenue and jobs into the local communities.

Dedicated hunter conservationists support the communities and the wildlife that allow us to hunt.

Taking on the rugged Yukon terrain is one thing, but while also hunting moose, caribou, and grizzlies underneath the Northern Lights? You can't make this stuff up. This is what dream hunts are made of.

While originally pushed back to June, the Canadian While originally pushed back to June, the Canadian land border will remain closed to non-essential traffic thru at least September 2021.

The country is still closed to any recreational travel even by air. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has indicated that plans to allow vaccinated Americans into the country will be made, but not until 75% of Canadians are vaccinated and transmission rates are under control. It may be some time before travel between our countries resumes.

👉Use unscented shampoos and soaps, including how you wash your hunting clothes. Black bears have one of the greatest senses of smell on earth.
👉Brush your teeth/chew gum. Bears love the smell of mint.
👉Know the terrain. Males are highly mobile in the spring on the lookout for females. Be familiar with where you might be stalking bears or use a guide.
👉Be still. As with most prey, movement is not your friend.

Patience and planning will be your ally.
